Former West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) as political parties continue preparing for the 2027 General Election.
Poghisio was officially welcomed to the party at Chungwa House in Nairobi on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, where ODM leaders announced him as their preferred candidate for the West Pokot gubernatorial seat.
The party confirmed his new political position in a welcoming message, describing him as its candidate for the county’s top seat in the next general election.
“Our 2027 Gubernatorial candidate for West Pokot County… Samuel Poghisio,” ODM stated.
His move marks a new chapter in his political career as he prepares to return to the electoral contest, this time seeking to lead West Pokot County as governor.
Poghisio previously served as West Pokot Senator and has experience in public service and national politics. His background in Parliament is expected to feature in his campaign as he seeks support from voters in the county.
However, although ODM has publicly identified him as its preferred candidate, the party’s formal nomination process will still determine who eventually receives its ticket to contest the gubernatorial seat.
His entry into ODM comes at a time when political leaders are reviewing their party affiliations and considering their plans ahead of the 2027 elections. The major parties are also working to strengthen their presence in different parts of the country.
ODM Welcomes Another High-Profile Defector
Poghisio’s arrival at Chungwa House came just a day after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja officially joined ODM.
Sakaja left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and was welcomed into ODM on Monday, November 2, 2026. Senior party officials, including Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati, attended the reception.
ODM leader Oburu Oginga also welcomed the Nairobi governor, whose move ended months of speculation about the political party he would use as he seeks another term in 2027.
The two developments have added to ODM’s political activity as it seeks to attract leaders from different regions ahead of the next general election.
